Tassal Group (TGR) is a vertically integrated aquaculture company engaged in the hatching, farming, processing, sales and marketing of Atlantic Salmon. TGR listed on the Australian Stock Exchange on 12th November, 2003. It has a workforce of more than 450 people.
TGR markets fresh salmon. It also markets several smoked salmon products under the Royal Tasmanian Salmon brand which are distributed through supermarkets and specialty retailers. TGR also supplies Coles and Woolworths along with its Royal Tasmanian product under a distribution arrangement. Tassal contributes 70% of the total Tasmanian salmon industries yearly production of over 17000 tonnes and it is considered as the largest aquaculture company in Australia. TGR’s volume has increased progressively each year and today its annual production reaches more than 12,000 tonnes. Salmon Enterprises of Tasmania Pty Ltd (Saltas) is a supplier of smolt to the Tasmanian aquaculture industry. Saltas’ 68.78% of the issued capital as well as its 61.22% of the voting shares are owned by TGR.
Tassal has pioneered lots of innovations in fish husbandry and farm technology. It has recently undergone major restructuring which together with a successful implementation of cost reduction initiatives by TGR has provided it with a healthy financial result. The company has assembled a highly esteemed team of marine biologists and experienced salmon farming staff having wide experience spanning over years in perfecting the growing of salmon.
Tassal Group History
Tassal was created in 1986 as a vertically integrated Salmon production company. It became floated on the Australian Stock Exchange in 1987. Tassal launched a subsidiary office in Japan in 1994. In 2002 Tassal underwent into receivership and was re-listed in 2003 following a capital raising. In 2003, the Company completed the acquisition of Nortas and formed a merger with Aquatas in 2005.
