QBE Insurance group's operations cover 44 countries which underwrites general and reinsurance risks, investment management and management of the economic entity's share of the NSW and Victorian workers' compensation scheme. The insurance company provides all major lines of insurance covers for personal, commercial and specialist risks in Australia, the Asia Pacific region, the Americas and Europe.
QBE Insurance Company History
QBE Insurance was first founded as the North Queensland Insurance Company, in October 1886 by James Burns. By 1890, the insurance company had established over 36 agencies, including those in New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore and London, the UK. On 28 June 1973, Queensland Insurance, Bankers and Traders merged with Equitable Life and General Insurance, and the new holding company, QBE Insurance Group was listed on the Australian Stock Exchange.
