Qantas Airways Limited Company History
Because of the desire to provide a connection with Darwin in northern territory of Australia and railheads located in Queensland Australia, the company was founded and it was formerly known as Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Service. It is an airline company and is the second oldest airline in the world.
Between Australia, Charleville and Cloncurry is where Qantas started picking and carrying mail and it took a while for the company to expand to many different routes in 1922. Because of the Second World War, the expansion became rapid. In 1935, Qantas began and had the first international flight.
The name Qantas was formed when the Queensland and the Northern Territory Aerial Services changed its name to Qantas back in 1967. The company moved the main office to Sydney, Australia back in 1938. In 1993, Qantas became the main air operative in Australia for purchasing Australian Airlines. Subsequently, British Airways bought 25% split of the Australian government as the start towards privatization. This Privatization ended in 1995 and Qantas share was given to the Australian stock exchange.
Continuing with the expansion, in 2004, Qantas broadcasted that they would put in in a new airline located at Singapore, Asia and they would take 49.9% share from the new airline. After a few months, Qantas opened a low cost airline named Jetstar.
