OneSteel Limited (OST) Company History
Back in 2000, OneSteel Limited (OST) was listed on the Australian Stock Exchange. There were eight businesses that are related to steel manufacturing, mining, and metal products that merged to form the OneSteel company. The eight businesses were run independently by their own businesses. OneSteel name was made to signify the merging of the former businesses.
Looking for business partners, they acquired two large businesses back in the year 2004. The two businesses are Midalia Steel and a very large mining company of magnetite which is the Project Magnet. It is located in the South Middle back region of the South Australia.
In August 2005, because of the additional sales in pellets and iron ores generated by the project Magnet, BHP Billiton became the exclusive marketing agent of the company. After that year, in year 2006, the proposed merging between the OneSteel and Smorgon Steel Group was held to pause because of the concern brought by the ACCC.
The merging of the two companies happened when OneSteel and Smorgon Steel broadcasted the operation of Australian Tube Mills, a structural pipe and tube project in March 2007 where the two companies would work together.
