Metcash Trading Limited (MTS) is a company engaged in the wholesale marketing and the distribution of liquor, food and other fast-moving consumer goods. MTS was listed on the Australian Stock Exchange on the 8th of April 2005. Its average annual revenue reaches approximately $9.7 billion. Its headquarters is located in New South Wales, Australia and to date; around 4,300 people are employed in the company. Metcash Trading Limited mainly operates in three business segments: Australian Liquor Marketers, Campbells Cash & Carry and IGA Distribution.
The Australian Liquor Marketers business segment Metcash Trading Limited wholesales and supplies products to more than 13,000 hotels, restaurants, liquor stores and other licensed premises that are operating in 22 distribution centres both in Australia and in New Zealand. This business segment of MTS also operates through, Tasman Liquor Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Metcash Trading Limited.
Campbells Cash & Carry maintains and operates 22 regional distribution warehouses and 21 Cash & Carry warehouses all throughout Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, Northern Territory and Queensland. Campbells Cash & Carry also stocks liquor, groceries, food service, and confectionery and is serving over 78,000 business customers. This business segment also supplies food service, liquor, dairy, grocery, tobacco, confectionery and frozen products to 6 specialist confectionery wholesale outlers as well as 4 convenience store distribution centres.
Metcash Limited's IGA Distribution is engaged in operating 12 main distribution centres with international standards with the delivery of 21,000 stock keeping units of chilled, frozen and dried groceries to around 2,700 retail stores.
Metcash Company History
Metcash was previously known as Davids Limited when it was established by Joe David in 1927. The company founded a condensed liquor venture in 1985.
Jewel Food Stores group, John Lewis Foodservice, Independent holdings and Campbells Cash and carry were taken by the company in 1995.
Metcash was managed by Metro cash and Carry South Africa in 1998. The name became Metcash Trading in 2000. Stewart & Co which is based in Queensland was bought by the company in the same year. 120 Franklin stores were taken in 2001. Foodland Associated was obtained in 2005.
26% equity interest in Dramet was taken by Metcash in January 2006. Metcash and Foodstuffs, grocery distributor in New Zealand established an organisation. Metcash Limited signed an agreement to trade the former Action supermarkets found in Western Australia in October 2007.
