First Australian Resources (FAR) is an emerging independent oil and gas exploration and production company with interests in Australia, China and the US (in the states of Texas, Louisiana and California). The company was listed on the ASX in January 1986. Its head office is situated in West Perth. Michael Evans was the founding chairman of the company and responsible for its flotation.

The Company has operations in the United States, Senegal, Canada, Australia and the People’s Republic of China. WA-254-P comprises four graticular blocks and covers 324 square kilometers within the prospective offshore Carnarvon Basin on Australia’s North West Shelf. EP 104 occupies an area of 740 square kilometers. Block 22/12 is situated approximately 60 kilometers off the coast of China, northwest of Hainan Island. The Sangomar-Rufisque offshore licence covers an area of approximately 7,490 square kilometers over the shelf, slope, and basin floor of the Senegalese portion of the productive Mauritania- Senegal-Guinea Bissau Basin.

FAR has established a strong presence in Louisiana, USA. It is one of the only Australia-based explorer targeting the waterways of South Louisiana, with discoveries made at Lake Long and Bay Courant. Most oil is sold into global spot markets, whilst gas is typically sold under long-term contract arrangements with utilities, large industrial users and steel plants. Key competitors include Rio Tinto, BHP, CH4 Gas Ltd (CHX) and Bounty Oil & Gas (BUY).
