Cooper Energy (COE) is an oil and gas exploration and production company with production assets in the Cooper basin of South Australia, as well as interests in South East Asia and North Africa. Oil and gas explorers own rights to explore for commodities in certain areas, and discovery goes through several stages from initial finding to test and appraisal wells and finally to production. Often joint ventures are formed to offset the risk and costs involved. The company was listed on the ASX in March 2002 with its head office situated in Perth. During the fiscal year ended June 30, 2009 (fiscal 2009), the Company participated in the drilling of seven wells. Five of the wells were exploration wells in the Cooper Basin, South Australia. Two of the wells were appraisal/development wells in the Callawonga Oil Field. As of June 30, 2009, the Company participated in production from eight oil fields in the Cooper Basin in South Australia, which includes Worrior, Callawonga, Christies, Sellicks, Parsons, Silver Sands, Parsons and Perlubie. A production sale from these fields was 487,254 barrels of oil, during fiscal 2009. The Company has operations in Australia, Asia and Africa. The Company’s subsidiaries include South Madura Exploration Comany Ltd, South Madura Exploration Company Pte Ltd, CE Tunisia Bargou Ltd and CE Cambodia B Limited. The Company currently has non-operated production in Australia and operated and non-operated exploration assets in three focus areas of Australia, Indonesia and Tunisia and its objective is to grow the Company internationally through a risk managed portfolio of high value exploration and development opportunities. The Company is continually evaluating new opportunities worldwide to add to our portfolio. The Company has a vision of being one of Australia's leading oil and gas companies with booked recoverable hydrocarbons in excess of 50 million barrels oil equivalent. Most oil is sold into global spot markets, whilst gas is typically sold under long-erm contract arrangements with utilities, large industrial users and steel plants. Key competitors include Bounty Oil and Gas (BUY), CH4 Gas Ltd (CHX) and BHP Billiton (BHP).
