ASX200
Australian Stock Exchange analysts, Macquarie Research Equities have recognised some trading opportunities as ASX200 has an Index change. The analysts' quant team has done some work around the changes to the Standard & Poor indices which were announced last Friday. New additions and deletions to the Australian indices were announced by S&P on 1 June with changes taking effect at close on 15 June. Demand by index (and enhanced index) funds, when stocks enter/exit indices, generally sees stocks outperform/underperform following announcement.

Oxiana (OXR) was the best performing shares among the shares listed on the ASX100 index (Winner of the Week for week 13 of 2007). This miner saw its shares increase in value by 10.99 percent or 31 cents to close the week at $3.13. The All Ordinaries closed the week at 6063.4 and the ASX200 index closed at 6077.1.

Energy Dev (ENE) was the worst performing shares among those listed companies in the ASX200 index (Loser of the Week for week 11 of 2007). This power company shed 6.92 percent or 36 cents closing the week lower at $4.84. The All Ordinaries index closed at 5933.1 and the ASX200 index closed at 5952.3.

Fortescue Metal (FMG) is the best performing company on the ASX200 index this week (Winner of the week of week 10 of 2007). This mining company closed the week at $20.20, $2.55 higher or 14.45 percent. The All Ordinaries closed the week at 5817.8 while the ASX200 index closed at 5836.3.

ABC Learning (ABS) is the best performing company in the ASX100 index this week (Winner of the Week of week 10 of 2007). The child care and education company closed the week at $7.38, 68 cents or 10.15 percent higher. The All Ordinaries closed the week at 5817.8 while the ASX200 index closed at 5836.3.

Kingsgate (KCN) is the best performing company on the ASX200 index this week (Winner of the Week for week 9 of 2007). The company closed the week 14.75 percent higher gaining 55 cents and closing the week at $4.28 per share. The ASX All Ordinaries closed at 5810.2 and the ASX200 index closed at 5830.2.

Caltex (CTX) is the best performing company on both the ASX100 and ASX200 indexes this week (Winner of the week for week 8 of 2007). The petroleum distribution company closed the week 6.49 percent higher at $22.80 increasing in value by $1.39 per share on the week. The ASX All Ordinaries closed the week at 5775.2 and the ASX 200 finished at 5786.

Transfield Services (TSE) is the winner of the week (the best performing company on the Australian sharemarket ASX200 index) for week 6 of 2007. The service provider company closed the week $1.54 higher or 16.8 percent, closing at a final price of $10.70. Transfield had a Buy rating last June and a share price target of $9.95.

Timbercorp (TIM) is the loser of the week (the worst performing company on the Australian sharemarket ASX200 index) for week 6 of 2007. Timbercorp, a finance and investment company, closed the week at $2.03, losing 8 cents or 28.3 percent. The All Ordinaries index closed the week at 5899.3, up 2 percent from 5814.4 last week, while the ASX200 index closed at higher at 5927.2 from last week's close of 5831.5.

Veda Advantage (VEA) is the winner of the week (the best performing company on the Australian sharemarket ASX200 index) for week 5 of 2007. The credit risk company closed the week 69 cents higher or 24.2 percent, closing the week at a final price of $3.54. The All Ordinaries index closed the week at 5814.4, up 1.1 percent from 5753.3 last week, while the ASX200 index closed at higher at 5831.5 from last week's close of 5769.9.
