The rivals of Telstra (TLS), are now stepping up their campaign on the independent senator of Victoria Steve Fielding in an attempt to convince him to change his stance regarding the Telstra bill. They are looking forward to see Mr. Fielding backing the bill before the senate. Chief executives of Macquarie Telecom, TransAct, Optus and Primus have communicated with the Senator and claimed that the legislation have revealed the fact that Telstra is currently posing threat to the industry. It is to be mentioned that Telstra is the largest telecommunications carrier of Australia that offers telecommunication and information services which includes pay television, mobiles and internet.
According to Paul O'Sullivan and other chief executives, independent evidence is widely available regarding the fact that Telstra has the ability to cause damage to the Australian economy by “holding a gun” to the head of the users and its competitors. They also included that the communications technology, something on which the telecommunication sector of the country is highly dependent on is being held by ransom the telecommunication. According to a spokesman of the senator, it is not quite clear whether a voting is going to take place today or not but if it happens then the senator will take his stance against the bill since this will stop the current negotiations that are going on between the company, Government and NBN. He also added that the dialogues would stop if the bill is successful.
It is to be mentioned that the Communications Minister Stephen Conroy proposed the NBN legislation and also used the bill in his talks with Telstra and for putting down the ground rules once NBN moves forward. Mr. Conroy has made it clear on Wednesday that he is looking forward for his resolve to divide Telstra structurally under the controversial legislation of reforming Telstra.
