Winners of the Week

Suncorp-Metway Limited (SUN), an Australia based financial services group that concentrates in the insurance, retail services, funds management products, provision of banking, superannuation, and corporate and commercial sector (market capitalisation $11501.6 million) was the best performer of the 3rd week in ASX100 with a gain of 3.3 percent or 29 cents closing the week at $9.05. It was a mixture of financial & technological services and travel companies in the ASX100 and ASX200 list: Suncorp-Metway Limited (SUN), Computershare (CPU), Macquarie Group (MQG), Flight Centre (FLT), Virgin Blue Holdings (VBA). Computershare (CPU), a provider of financial market service and technologies to other listed companies, exchanges, investors and financial institutions with its offices located in five different continents was next in the ASX100 list adding 2.2 percent or 26 cents to its stock price. Computershare was closed for the week at 11.95. Macquarie Group (MQG), a company that offers diversified financial services including advisory, banking, financial and investment services in the international market was placed third in this list with a gain of 1.9 percent or 99 cents to its stock price and closed at $51.60.

In the ASX200 list, it was Platinum Australia (PLA), Atlas Iron (AGO) and Ramsay Health Care (RHC), who took the first three positions for the week. Among them, Flight Centre (FLT), one of Australia’s major independent retail travel group which mainly focuses on the sale of travel and travel-related products and services was in the top position with a market capitalisation of $1923.8 million adding 8.8 percent or $1.57 to its stock price and was closed for the week at $19.30. Virgin Blue Holdings (VBA) an airline travel service provider that concentrates on the Australian market was next in the line. Virgin Blue, with a market capitalisation of $1369.7 million gained 7.8 percent or 5 cents to its stock price closing the week at 62 cents. The third position was taken by Suncorp-Metway Limited (SUN).
