An Ode to Trading Rules

Submitted by Marco Palmero on 11 September, 2009 - 13:47

O why did I break my trading rules?
What I thought was set in stone, was not
Trading rules designed to be followed
In the pursuit of income, greed succeeded

The markets turned against me, in a strong rip tide
Pulled my trading equity down to negative
Was it greed or was it the need for excitement?
Why must successful trading be so boring?
Discipline and consistency out of fashion

As the markets took my account, I thought
Why did I hold past my stop loss?
And yet past my secondary stop... I held on
Too hopeful... Blinded by unreasoned optimism

Alas, the market turns on my tertiary stop level
Forgiveness blessed, lesson learned?
Trading account intact, my spirit is exhausted
From mental strain, which could have been avoided
Had I followed my trading rules.
