The Best Performing Stocks of the Week

United Group (UGL), one of the leading broad-based infrastructure and services group of Australia with a market capitalisation of $2407.1 million which mainly focuses on manufacturing and engineering services, incorporate industrial maintenance and development and maintenance of industrial properties and resources with business operations in Australia, New Zealand, North America, Asia and in some parts of Middle East and Europe was the best performing stocks in ASX100 index for the 34th week that saw a rise of 17.8 percent or $2.21 cents in its stock price closing the week at $14.58. It was a mixture of Services, Utilities, Infrastructure, Resource and Exploration companies in the list of the best performing companies in the Australian Stock Exchange for the 34th week of 2009: United Group (UGL), James Hardie Industries N.V. (JHX), Downer EDI (DOW), Lynas Corporation (LYC). James Hardie Industries N.V. (JHX), a company that is engaged in producing building materials, operating in Australia, United States, New Zealand and the Philippines was the second best company in the list with a gain of 16.1 percent or 93 cents closing at $6.68. James Hardie has a market capitalisation worth of $2887.5 million. The third place was taken by Downer EDI (DOW), a company that is engaged in the provision of infrastructure management services and comprehensive engineering services to private and public power, resource, rail, mining, road and telecommunications sectors in Australia, New Zealand, Asia, Europe, and US with a gain of 14.5 percent or 97 cents closing the week at $7.65.

Lynas Corporation (LYC), United Group (UGL) and James Hardie Industries N.V. (JHX) were the top three performers in the ASX200 index for the week. Lynas Corporation (LYC), an Australia based mineral explorer with focus on exploration and development of rare earths deposits along with the discovery of other mineral resources with a market capitalisation of $383.2 million was the best performing stock among them in the list adding 27.1 percent or 13 cents closing the week at 59 cents. The second and third place was taken by United Group (UGL) and James Hardie Industries N.V. (JHX) respectively.
